Our Boarding House enables children from
rural communities to receive a quality education at CEDA Home School.
THE CEDA BOARDING HOUSE.
In Uganda, the children who are most at risk and unlikely to receive an education, often live deep in rural villages.
The schools which offer a good standard of education are usually based around towns and cities, including our own school - CEDA Home School - which is based just outside of Jinja Town.
We decided to open our own Boarding accomodation with a difference. Dormitories in Uganda can often house up to 50 students in one large room; children become one of many and are not interacted with on a daily basis. We decided to have a 'Boarding House'. This is in the form of a family type set-up with a maximum of ten children to two 'mamas'. Each Boarding House would have its own kitchen, living area and bedrooms; allowing them to live in a way that replicates a family as closely as possible. This allows our carers to really get to know the students, help them with their studies and develop strong bonds.
Having our students boarding means we can ensure they are receiving three meals a day through a well-balanced diet. Additionally, this allows them to focus on their studies, rather than their struggles of day-to-day life.
We currently have one Boarding House up and running but, as we expand, we hope to create many more in the future and provide further educational opportunities for children in Uganda.
OUR HOLIDAY PROGRAMME.
The majority of students have loving families to whom they return for the school holidays. However, some of our children do not have a safe place to go to and for these select few children, we have established a Holiday Programme.
Our Boarding House will remain open during the holidays, and although there will be no formal learning taking place, the children will be able to engage in lots of arts, crafts, games and activities.
We realise how important it is for families to be involved with their children and their education. We have recently established a Visitation Programme which promotes family involvement.
Each term, we host a Parent Picnic at our Home School & Boarding House. We expect family members to join their children for a picnic and activities. They will also get the opportunity to speak to the teachers about their child's progress.
