The
Business Services Team will provide a range of new and continuing
services in the financial year 2005/06. Following the announcement
by Scottish Enterprise that with effect from the first of April
the team will no longer be responsible for promoting Investors
in People within small companies the IiP team have been looking
at alternative ways to continue to support small businesses. It
is hoped that by providing workforce development training, to
enable businesses to grow, the IiP work in progress (£50k)
will be augmented. At present this type of training is provided
by Glasgow Opportunities and Glasgow North, however, a case has
been made to Scottish Enterprise Glasgow for a south side provision.
The IiP team can deliver much of this training as they have both
the skills and experience. Workforce development will cover a
range of disciplines including management, marketing, H. R. and
ICT.
Business start-up although funded through Glasgow Business
Services will still be an integral part of the Business Services
Team strategy with the Start-up Adviser remaining as part of
the team and receiving support from team colleagues. The team
will continue to deliver the highly successful business start-up
evening classes that have been developed to meet the needs of
SIP clients.
The team plans to generate some commercial income through the
delivery of a range of training programmes for external organisations.
The client base of organisations requesting training has been
steadily growing with many existing clients requesting further
training. In addition income will be generated through the delivery
of Business Reviews for Glasgow City Council.

For year 2005/06 the main operational projects for the team
will focus on:
• Completing Investors in People Caseload
• Workforce Development Training on behalf of SEG / GCC
• Small Business Start-up Support
• Income generation through Commercial Training/Business
Reviews
Partnership Working
The Business
Services Team will work in partnership with Scottish Enterprise
Glasgow to complete the existing Investors in People client
portfolio and it is anticipated that this will be finished no
later than 31 December 2005. The team will also work in partnership
with small businesses to identify and deliver training solutions
to enable business to expand and grow and with the Glasgow City
Council on the delivery of Business & Employee Development
Reviews. These reviews will identify the aspirations of local
businesses and the support required to match these. The team
will work closely with the Social Economy Team and with other
CEDA teams to identify areas for joint working.
