The
Child Care Class of 2003
The only man , so far,
to achieve a Child Care qualification through Childcare Works in
Castlemilk didn't make the awards ceremony. He was too busy watching
an important football match on television that evening! While Paul
O'Lone subsequently received his SVQ Level 2 in Playwork, he missed
a very good evening.
CEDA's Deputy Chief Executive
Carol Daly presented the certificates and congratulated all the
successful students on their achievement.
Mary Anne Lydon, who
with Angela McHugh runs Childcare Works, said it was an evening
of many firsts. 'Not only do we have our first male graduate we
also have had for the first time, a student who had a baby during
the course and another student who's baby is due any day.'
During the maximum 52
week contract with Childcare Works, students, who receive a wage,
go out to nurseries for work experience. At least 14 people so far,
have found permanent, child care jobs as a result.

The successful students
seen with Carol Daly and Angela McHugh (back row, left and 2nd left)
and Mary Anne Lydon (back row, right) are
Front row : Annemarie McCloy, Alison Bulloch, Margaret Daly, Katie
Gallacher, Jeanette Adair
Back row : Donna Poole, Yvonne McCafferty, Melissa Henderson
All achieved an SVQ Level 2 in Playwork except Alison Bulloch whose
certificat was SVQ Level 2 in Early Years and in Care and Education.
