Nursery wins the cherry

Cherry Tree Nursery in Castlemilk has won a special small business award. At the Personal Enterprise Show held recently in Catlemilk Economic Development Agency offices in Glenwood Business Centre, local MSP Mike Watson presented Cherry Tree Nursery owners, Ann Fletcher and Jess Jarvis, with their award. Part of their prize was £250 from the Clydesdale Bank whose regional manager Douglas Barbour handed over the giant cheque. David Coyne, chief executive of CEDA who hosted the evening for the Small Business Gateway said, 'Everyone had worked really hard to establish their own business with the help of Ken Stewart and his team in CEDA.They have taken an enormous step into self employment and into employing others. It is nice to see how local people are succeeding in setting up their own businesses and providing a service to the local community.'

After the ceremony, Ann Fletcher commented, 'We're really chuffed to win this. CEDA business advisors were a great help not just with our business plan but with a variety of things along the way. Now we have 51 children and capacity for 84 at the Nursery which is off Carmunnock road.' Their business advisor Janet Campbell said, 'They've not had a particularly easy time, but they've always asked for help and advice each step of the way and never left it till too late to take action.'

The event was seen live on CEDA's own website - www.ceda.org.uk - thanks to the company's own technology team.
